5:15-6:00 p.m. VIP TASTING (additions to the list will be made as they come in)
KBS, Founders Brewing Company - An imperial stout brewed with a massive amount of coffee and chocolates, then cave-aged in oak bourbon barrels for an entire year to make sure the wonderful bourbon undertones come through the finish.
Backwoods Bastard, Founders Brewing Company - Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts, a bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark fruit. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.
Juliet, Goose Island Beer Company - A rye beer aged in French oak (Robert Craig Cabernet Sauvignon) with blackberries and Brettanomyces.
2014 Bourbon County Stout, Goose Island Beer Company - A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with thick foam the color of a bourbon barrel. The nose is an intense mix of charred oak, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer.
2016 Bourbon County Stout, Goose Island Beer Company - Aged 100 days in bourbon barrels.
Halia, Goose Island Beer Company - Halia is a farmhouse ale aged in wine barrels with whole peaches, resulting in bright, effervescent fruit notes in a soft, hazy body that finishes slightly tart and sweet with the pleasant character of ripe, juicy peaches. Literally meaning “remembrance of a loved one” in Hawaiian, Halia was brewed in memory of the dear friend of one of our brewers who loved peaches.
Gillian, Goose Island Beer Company - Inspired by an amuse bouche often prepared by the wife of one of our brewers, Gillian brings white pepper, strawberry, and honey to a harmonious blend. Partially aged in wine barrels, this Belgian style farmhouse ale is slightly tart and pleasantly sweet in a refreshingly effervescent body.
Barrel Aged Amarillo Warrior Imperial IPA, Stone's Throw Brewing - This hop hero is our annual Imperial IPA and one of the strongest beers we make! Additions of Amarillo, Warrior & Simcoe hops every 3 minutes for an hour and a half demand tribute from your taste buds. But the expansive hop flavor is checked by a strong malt & alcohol presence that delivers a delicious balance of power to your glass. Make sure to pair with a culinary combatant that will be equal to the task of battling Amarillo Warrior with flavor!
Bourbon Barrel-Aged Arrogant Bastard, Arrogant Bastard - I, from a slumber that’s been anything but peaceful. I don’t take kindly to idling and I am anything but neutral. Life has nothing to do with killing time, and the knowledge that months have passed since the onset of my sequestering in this pitch-black oaken tomb (albeit a barrel flush with brilliant aromas of vanilla and char) does not sit well. But then comes a tingle followed by rejuvenating warmth, signs that something is different…something has changed…and for the better. I feel stronger yet somehow more nimble and refined. I feel even more self-assured, and my vision for what is good and right, honest and true, is as laser-sharp as the brawny, bawdy, liquid Arrogance that shall further advance my battle against all things mediocre and geared toward the lowest common denominator. I have been born anew and, in the process, anointed with vibrant, inspiring, previously unexperienced character, all while maintaining everything I am and have always been—bold, bullish, unadulterated, and yes, Arrogant. Are you Worthy of quaffing a beverage of this intensity, irreverence and quality craftsmanship? Not likely, but for those who “get it,” I know my time in this bourbon barrel has not been wasted. Cheers to you, enlightened imbiber. On second thought, cheers to me!
Waldos' Special Ale, Lagunitas Brewing - Brewed for all the treasure hunters. Herbacious. Botanical. Dank. Resinous. Good with Beer-battered Twinkies Con Queso…you can find out why if you google 'Waldo 420'
Davey Murray's Best Scotch Ale, Lagunitas Brewing - This Scotch Ale is sweet, but not cloying. It's strong, but not brash. It's smooth and smokey, like a good dram among friends.
Hotbox Coffee IPA, Oskar Blues Brewery - An odd couple can make for some of the most incredibly unique tastiness. Take Hotbox Coffee IPA - a piney, citrus, mango, Simcoe-hopped IPA and an infusion of cold brew extract made with Hotbox Roasters’ Ethiopian beans poppin’ with creamy blueberry and cacao notes.
Puff, Sixpoint Brewery - If you love Resin, try tasting it straight from the tanks. That’s Puff – a hazy, unfiltered pour straight from the tanks, with an extra dose of dry hops... a new blend devised just for Puff.
Barrel-Aged Fire Ant, Southern Prohibition Brewing - Imperial red ale aged in Willett bourbon whiskey barrels.
Territorial Reserve Rye Wine, COOP Ale Works - The 2013 Rye Wine began with several extended days in the brew–house. Following fermentation, the ale was aged in barrels for several months. This big, malt-forward beer was well worth the wait. The nose is filled with oak and caramel, leading to superb mouth feel and intense, warming flavors of toffee and toasted coconut. This beer has much to offer the tastebuds now, but will surely age quite well.
DNR Cask-It Series - Brandy Barrel-Aged w/ Cherries, COOP Ale Works - This Belgian-style dark ale is the culmination of central and western European malts, Noble hops, candy sugar and a traditional Trappist yeast. Notes of dried fruit, cinnamon and vanilla aged in brandy barrels with cherries.
Give Me IPA or Give Me Death, Stone Brewing - Aggressively hopped imperial IPA, jam-packed with Virginia raspberries and blackberries.
Einstok Wee Heavy - Viking history in Scotland goes back a thousand years. Even our brewmaster studied in Edinburgh, where he carefully surveyed the local brew. Now we return with an Icelandic Scotch Ale, brewed with locally farmed and smoked barley and spiced with native Icelandic angelica – a fabled herb ancient Vikings used as currency. Surrender your taste buds. They have no choice but to be conquered.
Guinness Antwerpin Stout - When the Belgian brewing industry was suffering from the impact of World War II, John Martin created Guinness Antwerpen. It was first imported to Belgium in 1944 and thankfully managed to survive the war. Since then it has become a sought-after specialty beer. The rich, smoky, malty taste is balanced with a sweet, fruity finish. And although light and creamy in texture, it’s still unmistakably part of the Guinness family.
Sierra Nevada Single Hop Cascade IPA - This IPA features the flavors of the Cascade hop in an all-new way. Highlighting its signature citrus, pine and floral flavors, this IPA is an homage to the hop varietal that helped cultivate the love of bold, hop-forward beers for brewers worldwide and made our original Draught-style Pale Ale a modern beer classic.
Sierra Nevada Coffee Stout - A cup of joe and a bold beer can thwart the winter cold so we blended them for the ultimate warmer. Our Coffee Stout is a fusion of dark roasted malts and rich, cold-brewed coffee for layers of bittersweet, fruity, dark chocolate and caramel-like flavors.
Sierra Nevada Maple Scotch - Style Ale - Scotch ales are wintertime staples, known for their rich, malty flavors with notes of caramel and toffee. This robust beer combines that traditional malt flavor with a touch of maple for an added layer of depth—perfect for sipping near a warm winter hearth.
Shiner Golden Ale - Dry hopped with Mosaic hops, this light-bodied ale has a unique, tropical aroma and a flavor that’s balanced by sweetness from the malt. It’s not the kind of gold you keep in a safe. Unless your safe is a cooler sitting on a back porch somewhere.
Anchor Christmas Ale 2015 - A touch of sweetness, stronger fruit aromas and flavors—sour cherry and prune—with a bittersweet chocolate note weaving in to create a remarkable sense of depth and complexity in a 5.5% ABV beer. It’s Anchor at the top of its game, and a wonderful example of a holiday beer.
Anchor Christmas Ale 2016 - A deliciously smooth winter warmer with notes of seasonal spices and a malty backbone, our 2016 Christmas Ale marks the 42nd annual release of this celebrated Anchor tradition. It is sold only from early November to mid–January. The Ale's recipe is different every year—as is the tree on the label—but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons, appears born anew. With a heavily guarded, secret recipe, Christmas Ale is a highly anticipated seasonal delight, complex and full in flavor with a velvety texture and alluring, yet subtle, spiced aroma.
Anchor Blackberry Daze IPA - Blackberry Daze IPA gets its hop bitterness and some hop aroma in the brewhouse, but most of the action happens in the cellar when the fruit is added during secondary fermentation. A special blend of loamy, herbaceous hops for dry-hopping complements the brightness and deep complexity of the blackberries. The result is a funky synthesis of rich earth and ripe fruit, hop bitterness and blackberry tartness, with alluring color and aromas up front, sublimely intense flavors, and a refreshingly dry finish.
Sam Adams Chai IPA - This spicy IPA is accented with warming Chai spices that add distinct cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove flavors. A hint of sweetness balances the hoppy, spicy flavors, and a touch of cardamom adds to the beer’s complex taste.
Elk Valley Blanc - Belgian-inspired white ale, brewed with coriander and orange peel, then aged in neutral barrels with Brettanomyces and other souring microflora.
